Ip Man 01Wing Chun (yǒng chūn;  “spring chant”), also romanized as Ving Tsun or “Wing Tsun”  is a concept-based Chinese martial art and form of self-defense utilizing both striking and grappling while specializing in close-range combat. Yip Man (6 November 1893- 2 December 1972), also spelled as Ip Man, and also known as Yip Kai-Man, was a most famous Chinese martial artist. Yip is considered the first martial arts master to teach Wing Chun openly. He had several students who later became martial arts teachers in their own right, including martial arts film actor  legend Bruce Lee. Yip Man is a very important figure in Kung Fu.

This martial-arts epic story follow Ip Man who is living with his wife and the son in one Chinese town Foshan – fame by increase of martial arts. Set around the time of the Japanese occupation of China during World War II. While the Japanese are outgunning the Chinese in firepower, martial arts are seen as completely outdated and useless. Though the rival schools of fighting and philosophy, sitting side-by-side in the same quarter of town, are still popular and thriving. But Ip Man, the most accomplished teacher and fighter in town, is refusing to run such a school or even publicly demonstrate his superior skills. When the Japanese army rolls into town to occupy the province, he’s eventually forced to fight publicly, against the Japanese. They’re keen to show that their unarmed fighting skills are better the Chinese. But who wants to when they’re also holding guns? Focus is on one man’s principles.

Inspirational biographical movie about the father of modern Chinese martial arts. Ip Man 1 is much better then Ip Man 2, for many reasons. Ip Man look like Rocky, this film structure has. But First one, is relaly gold mine. Photography are  amazing in both parts. Every fight scene is good organized.

Ip Man 02Ip Man was teaching Bruce Lee to fight, but who had been Teacher of Ip Man. Donnie Yen is great choice for Grandmaster “Yip Man”, main role. He even look like real Ip Man. He’s better than other Masters of martial arts and wing chun but is enlightened enough not to take himself to seriously. His powerful performance in Ip Man has established himself as a credible actor in addition to being a superb martial artist. Calm but charismatic star performance by him and magnificent action sequences choreographed by the legendary Sammo Hung.

Darren Shahlavi who costars as Twister in the film, has been a fan of Hong Kong cinema since a boy and even attended a seminar for film fighting by Donnie Yen 20 years ago in London, England

“I’m not trying to prove Chinese martial arts are better than Western boxing. What I really want to say is though people have different status in life, everybody’s dignity is the same”

“I realized today that I’m useless…I can do nothing. I practice martial arts, but so what? This world is miniscule, and I’m useless.”
